Looking at how Medo uses small laser cut details to add detail to the fabric.
Comparing the range of scales used for laser cutting.
I think how the material has been printed on with a design and colour then laser cut on top works well combing both processes. Creating more texture within one piece.
Engraving into the material to to make the material transparent and lighter.
Flocking used for an all over design on the piece, adding texture
Different techniques used to build up design and thickness on the material.
Looking at the shape of the design.
Darker colour used to on the design to stand out, darker outlines.
Types of materials that gives off a shine and the other has a more matt finish. Looking at how different techniques can effect a materials differently.
Photoshopping my prints on to different types of bags and accessories showing how I envision my designs working in context.
My prints didn't seem to work as well as I imagined when put on to the bags. The colours didn't work together as I hoped.
I found that by editing and changing my colour scheme of my prints was more effective and the designs worked better in context.
Rather than a strong, bright blue I have used a range of darker blues and navy colours with a range of red tones instead of orange, which I think is more effective and striking when put into context.
I had my prints digitally printed on different fabrics that I felt were more suitable and durable to be used on bags. Rather that the thinner materials I was using I chose a blackout waterproof, crushed velour, suede and a velvet shimmer to print my designs onto.
I felt these would be thicker materials that would work better in context and more appropriate fabric choices.
Waterproof blackout and suede are my preferred fabrics overall, but I think the shine from the crushed velour and velvet shimmer works as a better contrasting material when layered with the leather materials.
After analysing all my samples I found that together as a collection the prints were all a bit too similar and there was a lot of the same colour blue.
I felt some more colour could be added into the prints to brighten them up. Editing the brightness and colour of my prints I made them more vibrant and brighter with a wider range of blues including turquoise and a lot more orange added.
Also changing the scale of some print, enlarging the design to make a bolder print.
Thinking about my prints in context, working on bags I feel a vibrant print would work as the inlining of a bag or been layered as a print, contrasting with black and navy leathers.
Using the digital heat transfer to print my designs I have created on Photoshop to transfer onto material and keeping the graphic design.
Screen printing over the top to add in more colour, especially orange.
Wanting my prints to have a shine I also foiled onto fabrics to add brighter, stronger colours that worked well on chiffon compared with other fabrics.
Printing over the top of laser cut pieces as well for double the design, the materials I screen printed onto didn't seem to work as well as they dye didn't seem to settle on them.
I think my design worked better when digitally printed with additional screen printing over the top compared to the design all been screen printed as the images became more solid. More detail of colours and textures comes through when digitally printing my design which works better.
Looking at what materials I wanted my design to be printed onto I felt that my prints would work better for women's accessories rather than womenswear clothing.
I think my designs would work well on bags working with laser cut pieces as well as my print designs.
Working with thicker materials such as denim, faux leathers and PVC.
Including laser cut pieces into my work, I have played around with the idea of layering my prints underneath cut pieces.
Having my prints on light weight materials that have a shine such as chiffon, organza and satin I feel works as a good contrast in materials with thick, dark denim and faux leather over lays.
Creating different design to laser cut I found that some of the designs where too small to let through any print. I re created some new, lager designs to laser cut that worked better together.
Laser cutting worked better on thicker fabrics as the thicker materials such as chiffon where too delicate the the laser designs.
